Albany, NY (01/12/2015) Today, important progress was made when the New York State Senate passed the eight bills that make up its comprehensive women’s equality agenda. No vote was held on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s abortion expansion legislation. Kirsten Smith, spokeswoman for New Yorkers for Life, made the following comments:

Albany, NY - On Friday, January 17, in a radio interview with Susan Arbetter on "The Capitol Pressroom," Governor Andrew Cuomo declared that "right-to-life" individuals are "extreme" and "have no place in the state of New York, because that's not who New Yorkers are." The Governor advised pro-lifers and certain other groups to "figure out who you are, and figure out if your 'extreme conservative philosophy' can survive in this state. And the answer is no."

Following the 2013 regular legislative session—which ended without the passage of late-term abortion expansion legislation—Kirsten Smith, spokeswoman for New Yorkers for Life, made the following comments:

“All year long, New Yorkers for Life has asked a provocative and important question: Can’t we love them both? Can’t our society—our government—care about and respect the lives of women, and also care about and respect the lives of unborn babies? Today, the State Senate has answered that question with a resounding ‘yes.’”“
